Dr. Reginald Mayo Early Learning Center

Welcome to Dr. Reginald Mayo Early Childhood School, where little people play a big part in our hearts. Nearly 450 children learn and grow with us each day. We have 120 dedicated staff members.

At the Mayo School, we believe that each child is special and creates a unique opportunity to learn more about how children learn and the support they need to gain new skills. As a New Haven Public School Head Start Program, we are committed to utilizing developmentally appropriate practices along with positive child guidance to build strong relationships.

We provide an inclusive learning environment where 3- and 4-year-old children, as well as children with different abilities, learn together. Our day includes tiered arrival and dismissal, breakfast, morning meeting, centers and small group time, outdoor activities, lunch, nap-time, read-aloud and more, with an emphasis on children using creativity, imagination and discovery as they learn the skills necessary to be a good friend. Our hours are from 8-2 and 9-3 with another tier for children as assigned.

There are two staff members in all classrooms with a third person in many rooms to support children.

We also have family service workers in most classrooms to support children and their caretakers. They have connections to many community resources that can help parents continue as their child’s first teacher.
