Welcome Message from Augusta Lewis Troup School
August 19, 2024
Dear Troup Families:
I hope everyone is well and enjoying your summer. It is hard to believe that summer break will be coming to end in a little over a week. In preparation for the 2024-2025 school year, I’d like to share some important information with you.
Troup has joined the Commissioner’s Network. What that means is we are a turnaround school which will receive additional funding and resources from the State of Connecticut to assist us in improving instruction and student outcomes. Our focus will be writing across the curriculum. Students will be writing in all classes, not just ELA. Writing is an important skill which will be very beneficial to our students in the future. Along with this there will be additional changes. Some of the changes are as follows:
- Teachers were given the option to remain at Troup or opt out. This year we will have 13 new teachers in the building due to opting out.
- Uniforms will be reinstated, students should wear khaki bottoms and green or white tops. Students can also purchase and wear Troup t-shirts instead of the green or white shirts. Students who do not comply with the uniform policy may be excluded from field trips, etc.
- Students in grades 5-8 will be required to put their phones in safe, locked pouches. Students will be able to carry the pouches with them, but they will be locked. They will be unlocked by school staff when it is time for dismissal.
- We want to reduce our chronic absenteeism. Therefore, it is imperative that your child comes to school, daily, and on time. If your child is not feeling well, it’s better to send him/her so they will not be marked absent for the day. The health team will assess to determine whether your child needs to go home.
- The first day of school for students in grades K-8 will be Thursday, August 29. Orientation will be held on Wednesday, August 21 from 10:00-11:00 or 3:00-4:00.
Thank you and enjoy the remainder of your summer.
Sincerely,
Eugene J. Foreman, Jr.
